Being aware of oral hygiene mistakes that are common is very essential. Finding these mistakes in the beginning stages will help you build a good dental hygiene routine. Here are the most common oral hygiene mistakes to avoid additional problems with your teeth.

1) Brushing very hard

Brushing hard may look like you are thoroughly cleaning your teeth. Unfortunately, this type of brushing damages your protective layer of the teeth. Brushing gently will effectively produce clean outcomes without wearing off your enamel.

2) Brushing your teeth only once a day

If you brush your teeth morning, it will remove the bacteria that is accumulated on the teeth overnight. The same applies to the evening. The bacteria that will be accumulated for the whole day must be removed from your teeth before going to the bed. But most people brush their teeth only in the morning. This habit should be changed.

3) Using teeth for other purposes

Teeth should be used only to chew food. Using your teeth for other purposes like tearing things, holding objects, and biting nails can cause strain and damage to your teeth.

4) Brushing for not adequate time

Two minutes of brushing is very important to remove plaques and food particles effectively from your teeth. Sadly, many people rush the brushing process of their teeth. If you don’t brush your teeth for 2 minutes, you may miss various spots and particles in your mouth. Consider using a timer or electric toothbrush to experience complete brushing.

5) Replacing brushing with mouthwash

Some people use only mouthwash and skip brushing and flossing. While using mouthwash can be a significant addition to your daily oral hygiene habit, still it is very important to brush & floss your teeth daily.

6) Not storing toothbrush properly

Storing your toothbrush in a right place will keep them clean. If you keep it in the open area of your bathroom or a drawer, the growth of bacteria occurs easily on your toothbrush. This bacteria will transfer to your mouth also. Keep your toothbrush in a closed container, and in an upright manner will make them dry completely and safeguard from air particles.

7) Avoiding gums and tongue

When brushing teeth, most people focus only on their teeth. It is crucial to concentrate on other areas of your mouth also. You should pay specific attention to your gums and tongue as well.

8) Brushing as soon as after eating

The enamel layer of your teeth gets soften after eating, which causes your teeth more sensitive to damage. Hence, it is recommended to brush your teeth after one hour. If you are brushing your teeth as soon as eating, it will easily damage the enamel of your teeth.

9) Not replacing toothbrush

It is important to change your toothbrush regularly. The effectiveness of cleaning your teeth will be reduced. Changing your toothbrush head every 3 to 4 months is essential to clean your teeth effectively.

10) Skipping regular dental appointments

Visiting the dentist only during a problem is not just enough. It is essential to visit the dentist regularly for cleaning your mouth. This will help detect the potential problems in the early stages and prevent further problems.

11) Eating sugar excessively

Sugar

Taking sugar extremely causes various oral health issues. When you reduce your sugar intake, your benefits of oral health will be incredibly improved.

12) Not drinking water

Staying hydrated not only benefits your physical health but also improves your overall health. Sipping water regularly helps to remove harmful bacteria and other particles from the teeth’ surface. Also, staying hydrated helps to prevent your mouth from dryness and bad breath. A dry mouth also encourages bacteria to accumulate easily and results in teeth damage.

13) Not flossing

Brushing your teeth well? That is good, but still, you need to floss your teeth. Simply brushing your teeth will not completely remove plaque and food particles. The trapped particles between the gaps of your teeth will be cleaned only by flossing your teeth effectively. Make sure you floss your teeth for complete protection.

14) Not choosing the right kind of toothbrush

Some people use toothbrushes with hard bristles thinking it will effectively clean their teeth. But the fact is hard-bristled toothbrushes only damage your teeth’ enamel. Keep this thing in mind and choose the right kind of toothbrush.
