Why do dentists recommend Hybrid Implant Dentures to replace missing teeth?

Many people want dental implants to replace missing teeth as the fixed prosthesis encompasses several benefits than other tooth replacement options. However, implant teeth cost exorbitantly, so a few individuals use removable appliances like dentures for dental restoration. You might be aware of their drawbacks if you or your loved ones use dentures.

Whether it is a full mouth set or a single tooth denture, it will not hold up for long. Similarly, they are associated with problems like slippage while chewing, coughing, or speaking.

If you want a permanent & affordable solution to replace your full rows of teeth, a hybrid implant denture (also known as fixed hybrid denture) will suit your needs.

What is meant by hybrid implant denture?

Hybrid implant dentures are defined as dentures attached to implant posts. Regular dentures rely on gum and bone tissue, a layer of saliva between the appliance and gums to securely sit inside the mouth. On the other hand, the implanted dentures are anchored by the titanium screws inserted into the jawbone.

Since they can be obtained as fixed or detachable, these are known as hybrid dentures.

What is the difference between regular dental implants and implant dentures?

In general, full mouth rehabilitation with implants begins with drilling the sockets to insert metal posts of titanium into the jaw bone. Later, a prosthetic appliance (dental bridge in most cases) is mounted over the implants that serve as a functional prosthetic tooth.

An implant-supported bridge requires 4 to 6 implants for dental restoration, whereas hybrid implant dentures require the same or less number of implant posts than regular implants. It makes restoring missing teeth with fixed-detachable dentures more comfortable, heals faster, and is affordable.

Similarly, hybrid dentures have various advantages over conventional dentures.

What are the benefits of having hybrid implant dentures?

Conventional dentures are well-known for their inexpensive rates and easy access and maintenance. However, they have certain disadvantages, such as the inability to prevent bone loss, the need to adjust or even change often, etc. Luckily, you will not encounter such problems with fixed hybrid dentures. Instead, they offer you various amenities.

Here are some of the advantages associated with such fixed dentures:

1) Secured fit – As discussed earlier, conventional dentures cannot prevent bone loss in the jaw. It makes the prosthesis not sit securely over the gums later. Consequently, the denture teeth start to move around inside the mouth, causing various difficulties. Such issues won’t arise if you have fixed hybrid dentures. As the fixed implants replace the roots, it prevents bone deterioration underneath the gums. It helps the dentures stay firmly in place for at least 20 years.

2) Easy to maintain – Taking care of conventional dentures is quite intricate. The denture teeth need to be taken out of the mouth. You have to utilize an appropriate denture cleanser, denture-soaking solution, and various things to clean denture teeth. On the contrary, the hybrid implant denture teeth allow you to brush and floss your teeth like you clean your natural teeth.

3) Teeth in a Day – Full mouth restorations made with hybrid dentures are called “Teeth in a day” implant dentures. It is because the denture implant posts fuse and heal quickly (between 2 to 4 weeks in most cases). It implies that a patient can get back their teeth immediately with fixed hybrid dentures.

Unlike conventional dentures, fixed implant dentures do not cover the roof of wearers’ mouths, so they can easily consume whatever they want. Moreover, hybrid dentures restore their ability to chew as well.

However, some food particles might get stuck beneath the denture, and piling up of such debris will cause certain discomforts. So brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings are pivotal to keeping implant dentures clean.
